How do you get track velocity to push out the front?

I'm wondering if there is an easy way to get a track velocity envelope to push the video out the front of a clip instead of the back.

I have a few video clips where I want to start from a still and gradually run up to full motion. Once I hit full motion I bring in the audio dialog. The problem is whenever I pull the velocity envelop to 0% it pushes the rest of the video out the end of the clip which causes the lip sync to get off.

Is there a way to lock the video at the 100% mark so any slow down of the video causes the extra to be pushed out the front of the clip?

The only way I can think of doing this is not overly easy but could get the job done. Split the clip on either end where you want it to go from still to full-speed. Put your velocity envelope in and set 0 and 100 at beginning and end. Then push the next clip to the right and drag it's length out from the right to the left. Butt it up against the velocity-envelope clip and see if the video advances smoothly from the end of the velocity clip to the next. Keep doing this until it looks smooth and natural. This is how I would do it, but maybe some of the resident geniuses on this forum have a better way.

This wannabe jeanyus suggests you might try:

displaying the frame numbers in events as TC, so you can split the event at the realtime point, apply the speed vector to the first portion and then "slip" the first portion until the last frame number matches the first frame number of the realtime portion.

I knew one of the "real" geniuses like you, Marty, would have a better way. Thanks! You just taught me something very valuable!

And now that I've tried your suggestion, Marty, I can't make it work, probably because I don't know what I'm doing. How do you set the TC in "events" in such a way that you can slip one event over another and see that the last frame of the first is matching up with the following? In other words what settings and where do I see the Time Code of both clips simultaneously?

Hi P,

I apologize for not pointing to

Options>preferences>Video - "Show source frame numbers in event thumbnails as... TC"

Then events showing TC in the TL should help you get lined up.

Oh, I also meant to say, not slip over another event, but use the "slip" function to keep the events butted, and still change the in and out points in the media.

Thanks, Marty. I was in Options | Preferences | Video but somehow overlooked that. And I understand the concept of slipping from Premiere but have never used it in Vegas. Will see what I can do here.

Yah, cool, just did it all, got the time-code displayed, figured out slipping! Been doing a lot of photo-movies set to music lately with velocity envelopes sprinkled here and there. This will be very helpful. Thanks!
