I'll try this again.
.veg_archive is listed in the "open" file dialog in the file type pulldown as a Vegas Archive file. Does anyone know what these files refer to? Or how or when these get created?
I've searched a bit as well - got my curiosity up.
Just a guess, but when you "save as" a project using the "save trimmed media with file" option, I know Vegas creates a new veg file that will now point to the new project folder location and the trimmed and collected media within. Perhaps that initial new veg is the archive file created by Vegas?
I might give it a try with something small if I can find a minute. You'd think you could open that new project folder and find that veg within.

Nop...the save as option for trimmed media creates a regular .veg file in the test I just ran -- so I changed the .veg to .veg_archive and naturally in the file open dialogue it found and opened the .veg_archive file. So I changed the .veg_archive to .foo_bar and in the file open dialogue it found the .foo_bar if I chose *.* as the file type and it opened that too. Vegas is really not too picky about what file it opens as long as it really is in .veg file format. So the mystery remains.
