how many machines can I load it on?

I currently have VV5 loaded on 2 diff. comp--one at my home, and one at another location where I wk.

how many can I have it loaded on? it's all for me, but I was thinking of getting a laptop and also of having my 2nd comp at home be somewhat of a "workhorse" to help w/ rendering, etc.

I remember somewhere that the magic # is 3...

thanks
dara

Unless they have changed it you can have it on as many computers as you OWN, as long as you are only running it on one computer at a time. So unless you purchased and own the computer you use at work you might want to take it off of there :)

I thought VV5 activation code was computer specific. My edit PC has just blown up so can I install VV5 on another machine until I fix it?

The email from Sony with my activation code says
"Please note that the Activation Code(s) above are specific to the computer with a Computer ID of XXXXX......."

It is. All you have to do though is install it on another machine and get a new authorization code.

The "activations codes" are specific to each computer, but the serial number, which is completely diffrent, can be used on more than one machine as long as it falls under the EULA.

The EULA states (from Customer Service Answer ID 455):

Question

Can I run my Sony Pictures Digital application on more than one PC?

Answer

Our licensing agreement permits you to install the software on as many machines as you own, as long as you are not running the programs at the same time. For instance, you can install the software on your home machine and on your laptop. You are not allowed to install the software on multiple machines if you are going to be using them simultaneously, such as in a home studio setting. If you are going to run the software concurrently on more than one machine, you would need to purchase a separate license for each computer.

Note that when you install the software on a different computer you will need to complete the registration process again. Register the software as you did the first time to unlock the program on each machine. You can register online directly within the software, via the phone, or on our website through our online form.

Thanks Mike. That makes sense. Why din't I think of that.

I've done it several times over the years with various Sony/Sonic Foundry products so I knew that it was easy to do.
BTW, if you do it too many times, you'll get asked why. Provide a truthful answer and you're back in business.
Now get that serial number and get back to editing :-)

That EULA seems crystal clear but with the addition of network rendering in VV5 it becomes a bit murky. Does network rendering constitute simultaneous use? Other than my growing curiosity of bezier masks, network rendering seems to be the only advantage for me to upgrade to 5 from 4. If I'm able to network render within the contraints of the EULA, I may just bite the bullet.
Anyone care to clarify?

You just install it on up to three machines. Use one for editing and the other two strictly for network rendering and they can all three be used at once. What you can't do is open Vegas on two of those computers at once for editing purposes.
