How Many of you Guys Use Virtual Dub

Satish, I was wondering----why did you develop the plug-in pac for VirtualDub? I have a sense that most Vegas users don't bother with it therefore the question. THis is not meant in anyway to be crtical---what you do is amazing! I just was interested in why----Was it just an incremental step before tacking the more difficult to implement plugins etc? Also, do you need to delete your old plug-in package before downloading or can you just install on top.

Keep up the great work.

I had a few requests, both in public forums like this and COW for vdub filters.. And yes, it is also an incremental step in the direction of supporting other plugins like photoshop.

I used VirtualDub before Vegas and STILL use it for preprocessing, mainly because Vegas doesn't have any filters that remove noise, that kind of thing. Thanks to Satish, he's developed an interface whereby Vegas now "sees" external VirtualDub filters that third parites have developed. I've tried one so far, smoother, and it works well directly in Vegas.

Also VirtualDub can open some files Vegas can't. So if you sometimes get files off the web, its useful for that as well. Considering it is free, VirtualDub makes a nice addition to your video tool box.

I also use it very-very a lot, in most cases when wanting to produce Divx content. It's fantastic with Divx especially its multiple pass render work. Can you imagine you can have 120 mins of video with 5.1 .ac3 sound multiplexed in .avi file of about 1400 MBs with full 720x576 resolution? Only VritualDub can do this. What is more now adding Substation Alpha subtitles intergration with Vegas (through the adapter) it makes Vegas the only NLE able to import subtitles. How would you put subtitles in your video without Satish?

Wait,

I am relatively new to NLE's...what is virtualDub, how do you use it, and where can I get it if it is free?

Fotis---my comment was not meant as any criticism of Satish---He is fantastic and much appreciated---I just wanted clarification and understanding---Again, Virtualdub isn't a tool that most Vegas users have experience with, and thus learning about it from informative posts is very helpful.
