How much disk space is normal?

Could I get an idea of how much disk space each minute of video should take up?

I posted another request asking if I had a setting wrong - now I'm wondering if maybe 1 GB per minute is considered 'normal' for NTSC-DV input. This was because years ago I knew that 9 minutes of DV video would fit in 2 gb of disk. When i saw 1 minute was consuming 1 GB I thought that was a 'tad excessive.

Could you take a minute to look at a recent capture & let me know how much disk space a minute of capture is taking?

That way I'll know if the usage I'm experiencing is normal.

13gig/hour is the number you'll normally see assciated with DV. Sounds like you're encoding with a different encoder.

ok - how would I determine which encoder I'm using? I thought it was whatever came out of the box from Sony Movie Studio.

The large file sizes began happening after I re-installed Windows / Movie Studio after a disk crash.

Thanks.

ok - my 'in house tech. support' (my son) took a look at my computer and pointed out that:

The Sony Movie Studio software is encoding as uncompressed UVYY - which is why the file sizes are so large ...and...
He looked at some of my video clips from the previous install - and they were very large as well - I had just not checked their size at the time of creating them.

So my question now becomes - how do I add an encoder to the Sony software to allow for compression - whcich would reduce the capture file size?
