How "permanent" are the 7 HitFilm effects in VP13?

Over the period of almost a decade of Vegas releases, we have seen various plugins come and go. At one point we had Red Giant Movie Looks, then Boris Graffiti Light, then NewBlue Titler 1, etc. Now we have seven HitFilm effects that are a direct part of VP13 itself.

If you were one of the people who used one of the earlier plugins that happened to be a 32 bit application, you now no longer have the ability to use it. If you used NewBlue Titler 1, does it still work in VP13 (I don't know because I don't use it).

I am wondering if we use one of the new HitFilm plugins in VP13, will it still be there in VP14 and beyond? If not, how do I remove those effects so they do not even appear in the effects list in the first place? Sure, I can just ignore them, but out of principle I just want them gone if they are mere transient effects. Besides, I have gotten to the point where I dislike the HitFilm Ultimate 2 plugin (and thus HitFilm products in general). In my opinion, compared to the vast abilities of After Effects, as HitFilm is a little of everything without being especially good in any one thing particularly with regard to 3D. Again, this is just my personal opinion.

I have been looking at Hitfilm Ultimate and Plugins over the past few days, because it is being offered at a good price until July 31st. I was tempted just to buy it and then hope that it was the best available product to supplement Vegas Pro.

But then there is the dilemma that other competing products also exist - attractive because they add more tools that I want. I am particularly drawn to Boris BCC9, and their video tutorials are very compelling.

So what do I buy? It is very confusing when there are similar tools being offered by FXHome and Boris. Perhaps no one company offers all the best tools in one package?

Like many others I do not want to buy several expensive products to then find out the truth myself. After Effects is not on my radar, because I am not going to get into any cloud situation.

I have Boris Red, which is their 3D compositor plugin that has virtually all the BCC plugins, a bunch of FEC plugins, plus and excellent 3D titler. Anyway, I definitely recommend BCC 9 over HitFilm plugins without any doubt. The quality is substantially superior.

HitFilm Ultimate is sort of a "poor man's" 3D and particle Swiss Army knife. It has a dumbed-down version of Mocha tracker and lets you import 3D objects. However, my main complaints are that it does not handle 3D obscurations properly, it does not allow you to apply effects to 3D primitives (e.g. blur a sphere), it fails to import a lot of 3D objects that work perfectly well in other applications, and the overall quality of the effects are not as good as other products (as stated above). As for After Effects, I bought CS6 even while CC was shipping because there is no way that I want to rent software or use cloud computing. I am pretty sure that CS6 is still available.

If you can afford it, I strongly suggest getting BCC 9. Then if you want to do some really high end 3D work and have lots of money to spare, get After Effects + Trapcode Particular + Element 3D + Mocha Pro tracker. This combination is what HitFilm Ultimate is trying to mimic.

I just figured out how to remove the HitFilm plugins from VP13 (I guess it was fairly obvious). Namely, remove the directory called "HitFilmVegasBasic.ofx.bundle" from "C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 13.0\OFX Video Plug-Ins".

Thank you Peter! I might have hijacked this thread but it seemed appropriate to me at the time. Anyways, I went out out bought BCC9 today and I look forward to using it.

Whether I will get After Effects, and those other applications - I am not so sure. I just bought a DJI Phantom last weekend, and a GoPro camera to do some aerial shots, and I got a worried call from my bank who thought somebody had hacked into my account.

My feelings on a plugin bundled with something it that it's free, if it doesn't work in a newer version, oh well. I wasn't forced to upgrade and I wanted to, not needed to.

For example, I still use Blender 2.49 even though 2.71 is out. Two main reasons: I like the old UI and don't want to relearn a new UI, but more importantly, my scripts work in 2.49 and aren't considered important/needed enough to be converted to the 2.6x/2.7x version. So, my decision has been made, I use 2.49.

I'd say Hitfilm is only permanent in it's current version of it & Vegas, just like everything else.

Mike, I'm sure you will be pleased with your purchase, as BCC has a lot to offer.
