Vegas is very scriptable and tons of scripts already exist.
I don't think anything changed with the move to version 8.

There is a scripting forum here, where you can ask that question of folks who actually write scripts.

I think your first question should be are Premiere and FCP scritable? I do not think they are.

Vegas is the only scriptable NLE I'm aware of. Premiere, FCP, Liquid, Edius, Avid - none of them offer scripting. This makes Vegas much more flexible than any of them.

Check out Ultimate-S and Excalibur to see exactly how far you can go with Vegas scripting. It will blow your mind.

But I am now going to need to do extensive scripting.

Why? And what?

Is it possible these means written dramatic scripts? It was the phrasing of the question that has me baffled?

The question is a bit confusing.
To further confuse things Vegas can run scripts but as far as I know isn't scriptable itself. By the last bit I mean use an external windows script to control Vegas. Not that I've ever found a need to do that. The Multirender function in the Veggie Toolkit comes very close to what you'd get controlling Vegas from a traditional Windows script.

"I don't think anything changed with the move to version 8."

Not so, there were a lot of new scripting options opened up in Vegas 8.

To answer your question (at least in part) of how "Scriptable" vegas is in the sense of what scripts can do within Vegas.

That is a link to the "what's new in Vegas 8" post by Sony in the Vegas-Scripting forum ( a place I suggest you look for your answer ).

My interest in scripting is that I am going to have a large amount of repetitive work to do at my job. It would be nice to automate as much of it as I can to free me up to do other things as well.

Dave, thank you for that link. I just downloaded the scripting kit and have already started reading it. If anyone knows of any other sights or links that would be useful for educating myself in scripting, I would really appreciate it!

OK, what kind of repetitive work? What would you need to manually repeat and then wish to automate?

Musician, send me an e-mail and we can discuss your particular needs and whether or not it's scriptable. I have a ton of information on my site related to scripting as well.

Musician, I sent you a response to your e-mail but it says it was blocked because it was spam???
