How stop dropping frames like crazy!!!!??

In a five second - not 5 minute - 5 SECOND video clip, I'll drop about 140 frames. The pictures gets all chopped up and the audio is way out of sync. What do I do? Thanks for the help!!

Someone's bound to suggest defragging your disks, so it may as well be me! I'd also make sure DMA is enabled
