How to arm tracks for record via keyboard?

Anyone know a way to arm tracks for recording via the keyboard? I need to be able to do it without the mouse.

I can select all tracks (ctrl-A) and start recording (ctrl-r), but when I do this it adds a new track and only records on that one. I want to select all tracks, arm them for record, then start recording, all via the keyboard. Is this possible???

Thanks!

Jdupre,

To my knowledge, there's no keyboard shortcut to arm tracks for record. Could you describe to us your situation? What is prohibiting you from using the mouse? Perhaps there's procedural way to work this out.

This would be a most excellent shortcut. Anybody know of a keyboard shortcut to mute a selected track?

As a general rule, I think there should be keyboard shortcuts for EVERYTHING. Why not have a keyboard shortcut? It is also a lot easier to automate keystokes than mouse movements if you wanted to control Vegas from another program or external controller.

But my issue at hand is that I have had problems with my system freezing when moving the mouse. It doesn't happen often, but when it does it requires a complete system re-boot. If a recording was in progress, all recorded files are trashed. Obviously I can not have this happen durring a recording session. What I have been doing is arming the tracks with the mouse and then turning the mouse upside down. I'd rather unplug the mouse completely.

I am trying out a different mouse that uses a different system driver. My system has not frozen yet (knock on wood), but I am still not 100% confident that the system is stable. I still need to use my system, and when it comes to live recording I can't take any chances.

Joe,

Well my friend, as the Chinese proverbs goes, there's no sense in using an axe to remove a fly from your friend's nose... or something to that extent. I think your work would best be served by replacing the mouse, as you've done (but your shortcut suggestion is a good one, so be sure to mention it to SoFo on their product suggestion page).

What kind of mouse was the previous one? Was it PS2 or USB? How old was it? If it was PS2, I'd suspect you had some broken wiring in the cord somewhere. I remember a few years back when I was assembling PS2 patch chords that if the solder points came loose, the computer would throw a fit. There's a good reason the manuals always tell you to shut your computer off before removing or installing a PS2 mouse: there are 5 volts running through that cord (which is a lot for microelectronics). A break in the wire will cause the machine to either freeze or reboot (sometimes accompanied by a cute little puff of blue smoke and the warm smell of burning electronics).

So yeah, this spiel means: Good call on replacing your mouse. That could fix it, unless the problem is with the PS2 connector on the machine, not the mouse (this is assuming you had a PS2 mouse). If you're still having problems, try a USB mouse. Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer mice let you bind any number and combination of keystrokes to their programmable buttons. You seem like a button kinda guy. =)

Hope this helps,

I have a Logitech USB Marble. If I load the latest drivers in XP Pro, my machine bogs down, as though the processor's availability is being rhythmically interrupted. Nothing in VV30 works properly when my computer is in this state. The only correction I've come up with is to delete the mouse, delete the Logitech drivers, and let XP re-detect my mouse, using XP's generic drivers.

I don't know why this is so, but, without the Logitech driver, my Marble works very well, and I never experience crashes or the problem described above.

If there is something about that problem mouse that you like, you might want to try it on your system without the drivers that you've been using. Just a thought.
