How to best Render AVCHD source for web flv video?

Hi -

Quick question, using a Sony SR11 to do some b-roll at a seminar I just did, importing the .mts clips to Vegas it looks like the source is 1440x1080...

To make it appear correct in Vegas, I have the settings at 1/2 res, eg 720x540 and PAR/pixel aspect ratio at 1.3333 (hdv 1080).

Is that that right settings, to output a version of that for internet streaming flvs? I'm asking because I always use a 1.0 square PAR for output settings for all 'web video (and the .9091 for dvds/ntsc). I find it odd needing to render in 1.3333, and since I'll be rendering this to .avi, then ingesting/formatting to .flv with Flix Pro as usual, should that be also set to a 1.3333 par, or the 1.0 I usually use?

thanks... it's a bit challenging figuring out how to ingest and convert AVCHD source to edit in Vegas, then output into flv. I don't mind having a widescreen flv on the site as long as the par is right.

thx,

ken

I have a SR11 and it shoots 1920x1080 not 1440.

interesting... maybe I set it to not full HD, eg medium res?... recording onto the memory chips vs hard drive... I think there's a few different resolution settings, though I usually do full res. I got that reading from right clicking on a mts clip in the vegas timeline, then looking at the media tab for properties... main thing is to not mess up the PAR, transcoding from one res to another to output flvs...

As far as I know... there is no setting on the sr11 for 1440... it's strictly 1920 (are you sure you're not talking about the SR1... that one I believe was 1440)

On another note, you can't use 1440 with avi. A 1.333 par is not recognized by avi so your video will come out "squished" at 4:3 with a par 1 (1440 is in fact 4:3)

Thanks, I'll double check... clicking on the media it shows in general tab, 1440x1080x12, thx re the par, I'll try and get it set up right.

I have one clip from my SR11 that show both 1440 x 1080 and the rest are 1920 x 1080 - not sure how I created the 1440 clip though - it looks as good as the 1920 format - maybe a glitch in Vegas or the camera.

I simply set the project up as the MTS file dictates - sound like yours should be HD 1920 x 1080i based on your camera.

Then I render it to an MOV file (usually at 1280x720, sorenson 3 compression.)

Then I bring the MOV file into Flash encoder and set the size of the video to the size I want the video to be on the web (keeping the aspect ratio intact) and use the 700kbps stream settings. The FLV file created always has the right PAR and looks great on line.

A good example is at: http://home.comcast.net/~drtelemark/wsb/televideo.htm.
It plays back smoothly on any decent cable or DSL connection.

Guys, AVCHD cameras record in both 1920x1080 1,000 and 1440x1080 1,3333 - depending on the recording quality you have decided to use (your camera settings).
You will have no problems having both animals on the same Vegas time line, as far as I have experienced.

What Flash encoder are you talking about here?
