I have an interview with a rapper to go on DVD.
i can split and mute the curse words out but instead i want to replace them with a "beep" sound any help out-there???thanks
Just find a beep sound, and put it over the words you want to, then insert an audio envelope on the bad words and bring the audio down on the bad words so just the beep is heard, then bring it right back on so he can continue talking. Or just delete the bad words and put the "beep" sound in the empty space.
you could probably use an audio volume envelope on the "curse" track and add an additional track for your "beeps". use the volume envelope to mute the sound where you add your beeps.
I'll tell you what, I edited the Mike Tyson/Lennox Lewis fight and had to do a LOT of audio editing for the curse words issue. I had to do it in Pinnacle Studio 8 though...
It is extremely time consuming, but you can do it without even adding the beeps, you just need razor control over the audio envelopes.
...then just play it for your children...they'll gladly point all that you miseed... :)
Yeah, I'm with Chienworks, that how I do those beeps too: record a second of a beep, then drop ti right over the existing audio. It will overlap, and only the beep will be heard, then just CTRL drag to resize it to your needs, preserving pitch.
The "beep" is obviously the usual way to denote a deleted word. However, in movies, alternate words are often substituted. This is often easy to do by finding another part of the tape where the actor says a more appropriate word or phrase and then blending it into the scene. Often you need to find some blank audio just prior or after the bleeped word and put that on one track below the word to be bleeped. This give you a match to the background audio. Then, you find a point where the actor is saying a more appropriate word, and then use that.
If the background doesn't match, you can sometimes blend a copy of what the actor says back onto itself, offset in time. You can also try reversing the audio and blending it back. If you click on this link, you will hear a five second Real Audio link of a cleaned-up version of Fiona Apple singing the "F" word in her song Mistake. When she sings it, it is the only clearly articulated word in the song. It really jumps out at you. By blending, as I describe above, you get inarticulate mush, worthy of Demosthenes himself. I'll leave this file up on the site for a few days:
"Yea me too, I have never heard a rocker use bad language before.. Especially during an interview."
were are you from? mars???? just kidding, try ozzy osbourne...
"Yea me too, I have never heard a rocker use bad language before.. Especially during an interview."
I think that was sarcasm pedro.
Also, be careful if you use johnmeyer's method that the rapper doesn't come back yelling " I DIDN'T SAY THAT!!"
If you have the OK to do it, it does sound like a good solution. Good luck trying to get the OK!
I can just picture it now...Do you mind if I cut/paste "gosh-darnit all" instead of "motherf*****r!"? :)
