How to calculate bitrate for blu-ray?

Have an approximately 300 gig file I want to put on Blu-Ray, how do I calculate the bitrate I should render at to get it to fit on a single layer disc?

What is the duration? A standard Bluray disc is 25 GB. Allow a bit for audio and menus and then it is just arithmetic. (There are 8 bits in a byte).

Note that MPEG4 AVC (H.264) will give better quality than MPEG2 for the same bit rate.

dvd assume 1 layer, ac3 audio at 192bkps

bd assume 1 layer disc, audio PCM 16b 48khz 2ch

also add menu time in the total time

also, script to run from vegas toolbar (put executables in "C:\Windows")

The main factor is the time length of your source, not the size..

If you know how to calculate for DVD, then Blu-ray is similar. except size is 25GB (rather than 4.7 GB).
For avchd codec, the max bitrate is 21 Mbps, while MPEG2 is 40 Mbps.

...and if you don't want to calculate anything, just drop the file into DVD Architect and let DVD Architect figure it out. ;-)
