I assume the DVD that it creates is storing the video as VOB files in the \VIDEO_TS folder. One way to edit them would be to copy then to your hard drive and rename them to *.MPG (from *.VOB). Then you should be able to drop them on the timeline.

I also have some DVDs I want to edit in MS. I renamed a 800MB VOB (approx 15 min video) to MPG. When I drop the file into the timeline the event lentgh is only about 1 min 9 secs. If I play this MPG file in WMP it shows the correct length. Is there a default event lentgh for mpg files in MS? Is there a way to override this?

Is this a DVD you previously created or is this a DVD that was store bought and could have copy protection on it? You shouldn’t have any problem renaming the VOB to MPG for a DVD you created.

Its a DVD I created by dubbing from a family vacation VHS tape using the Sansui (Sears) DVD-Recorder deck. The DVD plays OK in other stand-alone decks.

Don't know what format DVD you burned to, but DVD+R's don't always play in older players..... you might want to try burning to a DVD-R and see if that plays

If renaming the VOB file won’t work you’ll need to rip the DVD to your hard drive. There is lots of information on how to do this at dvdrhelp.com.
