A script probably exists for something like this -- but how many do you have?
There is a shortcut to do this. Click on the transition and hit the "/" key in your
number keypad. Removes the transition and reverts to simple crossfade.
Might be shorter than loading a script, testing it etc.

I thought you could highlight all the relevant clips and drop the new transition on the clips.

You can. But a standard "crossfade" is not one of the transitions. You could drop a dissolve on them but it's still not the default crossfade. To get back to the crossfade, the transition must be deleted. If you have more than a couple, the script will do that much more quickly than you can do it using the / key on the numeric keypad.

Yeah... I feel that one of the Transitions should be a Simple Crossfade.

I know if you overlap a clip it will give you a basic Crossfade... and with this Script you can Remove all Transitions leaving you with a Crossfade... but it would be nice to have a Transition FX that would give you a simple Crossfade. -That way you could select all events and drop the Crossfade on them all.

It's always the simple things that get overlooked. There's usually more than 1 way to do different tasks and I think adding a simple Crossfade to the Transition FX would be the most Standard way for adding a Crossfade as this is one of the most difficult things for others migrating from other NLE's to grasp.

You could try:
cross effect -> Cross zoom A only, and set effect to none. That;ll give you a crossfade transition.

Save it as a new preset = new transition that's a crossfade...
