I go to my profile, click on the default avatar, det the option so select one image file of my choice, click OK and voila - I have a new new avatar! But when I go back to the forum - foom - the avatar is gone. It won't stick.
Some people have managed to do this, so what's the trick?

I would love to upload an avatar for myself. But I cannot find any information about what size the avatar image should be.
I also see that most avatars seem to be circular. Is it because the forum cuts out a circular portion of the uploaded avatar or is it that everyone here seems to have uploaded a circular image (which I find unlikely)? Because if the forum does it, I need to account for it when designing the image, so nothing essential is removed.
There doesn't appear to be any info on size and yes the Forum makes it circular.
My own comes from a 300 pixel square image but it obviously doesn't need to be that large.
