Titles & Text is long overdue for an overhaul so currently you cannot do what you want.

But ProType Titler will do it but be warned it's cumbersome to use. At least to me. Go to Preferences/Deprecated Features and tick the box to enable it. Shut down VP then reopen and it should appear in the Media Generator list. At least it does in my VP21. I don't think VP23 is any different.

@KDJack ProType Titler, although a deprecated feature as @EricLNZ states, is a very powerful titler. One of the many things it can do is what you want. If you want to get into it, check out my YouTube series on it starting at Tutorial 102 on my channel 'Veteran Video Editor'. Until a new titler is developed, ProType Titler will be available, and probably afterwards. Be aware though, as it's a deprecated feature, there's no official support for it.

VEGAS programmers have posted in this user forum that a new title editor is on the list of things that they will be working on. But without a stable running Vegas Pro, what good will a new title editor be (which has to be designed from the ground up) if the software is too buggy to use? If the old coding is not replaced?

Granted, title software should be good and a part of editing software, but I have other tools for titling (NBFX Titler Pro 7, Boris FX Title Studio), but can get by even with the basic Titles & Text for the most part. But that's "me".

I truly feel your pain here. And the Vegas team is well aware of the deficiencies in our current titler offering. We have wanted to do a new titling feature for a very long time. The new management at Magix has now given us the opportunity to actually being development on this. We have wanted to do this for almost a decade, but obstacles such as resource allocation to unrelated engineering initiatives in other parts of the company have prevented us from moving forward on it. (This also delayed the long-awaited replacement of the video engine as well.) We have begun the design phase for the titler. I cannot give an ETA when it would be done, but it is not a quick process (especially if we want to get this right) and we are a small team.

The passion that users have over this topic only confirms to us that our users really want Vegas to be a great tool for their creative vision and they want us to succeed. The team and our current management share this passion as well.

The Title&Text Titler isn't that bad, wouldn't it be easier (and faster) just to add extra/missing features to Title&Text instead of setting up a complete new titler? When I see how long it takes to rebuild Vegas to a modern NLE, I'm afraid that I will not see a new titler in my lifetime.

Some more historical background here...

Titles and Text is simply an OFX wrapper for the ProType titler. It was originally conceived as a way to create a easier, more intuitive UI for ProType. We piped about as much functionality over to Titles and Text as we could. On a couple of different occasions, then tried to add a couple of the most commonly request features like multiple color text and pathways/curves for text to follow, but the attempts did not work. We have added some new presets to T&T over the last few years and a couple of minor additions that we were able to pipe in from ProType.

T&T was never intended to be a long term solution for our titling needs in VP. It was simply a stop gap until we could get a new titler developed. Sadly, it's been almost 15 years now.

The last thing i want to hear is "how hard it is to update/create software.." - that's loser talk. Smart managers/software teams do it everyday- they document their code, use AGILE project mgmt (or whatever approach that's most effective)- nothing is impossible with smart, effective management and software teams. When i hear complaining, usually changes need to be made in the staff sooner rather than later.

VEGASDerek wrote on 9/25/2025, 12:37 PM

@KDJack

Believe what you want. Blame me, fine. Call me a loser, fine. Nothing is impossible...true. We have a team working on Vegas that is currently about 20% of the size we had working on it 11 years ago. These guys have stuck with this company and this project after having just exited an insolvency process which was pretty devastating for all of us. Don't place blame on rest of the team or even call them losers as they are working their butts off right now to try to provide our users a solid product. I apologize we have not met your needs, but attacking us is nothing but demotivating and it is not accomplishing a damn thing.

@VegasDerek- no one attacked you or your team personally. I never called you or anyone else out. I just jumped ship from Adobe because i don't believe in their subscription model nor will i ever. I've been pleasantly surprised with VP23, just some of the basic functionality omissions were shocking. It's not bad software- perhaps you all need to capitalize on the fact that you're NOT Adobe, and market it aggressively on that fact. But those core basic functions and functionality HAVE to be there.
