How to connect monitor to computer

I have this JVC monitor:

That i usually connect to Vegas through firewire camcorder. Now i would like to take the camcorder out of the equation... Any idea on how to connect the computer to the monitor bypassing the camera (and without codec, gamma shift)?

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can. It's going to require a camera or deck of some sort.

You'll need some sort of digital to analog converter.

ADVC110 would work with f/w in and S-vid out to your monitor, or a far more expensive solution would be, as Jay said, a deck or one of the i/o cards like AJA or Black Magic Design.

So to simplify it. I need firewire out of computer, converter with firewire in and analog out, yes?

Yes, I've been using an ADVC-300 for exactly that purpose for a couple of years, no complaints.

Patryk,

That would likely be the cheapest solution.

If not f/w out of computer, then a card that does that. For example:

I use a BMD Decklink Studio card to be able to monitor from the Vegas t/l to an HD TV. The card simultaneously downconverts and thus I have my SD SONY monitor showing the output at the same time - letterboxed....

At close to $300 all those solutions seem a bit pricey, any cheaper way?

Just save the money (if it is an issue) and hide the camera and connect monitor to it. I have three throwaways for capture and this.. SD though.

One of the cards/boxes will do the same.Although the IO box that I work on MAC with gives professional tweaks, but I can't think what you would use those for ccoming from Vegas.

In my case, the ADVC-300 was bought for capturing analog tapes (it's bidirectional) and it does a great job with that. As an output converter, that was a bonus I didn;t even contemplate when I bought it.

It seems the cheapest converter i can find is ADVC55.

Will that work?

I believe the ADVC55 is for capture only, it does not have any outputs so it will not work for monitoring.

Go to ebay and do a http://photography.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=canopus+&_sacat=625&_stpos=34711&_sop=15&gbr=1&_odkw=canopus&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313"lowest price + shipping first" search for "Canopus" in the "cameras and photography" catagory[/link]. There are a couple of people clearing these out for rock bottom prices now that SD is so out of vogue.

For the kind of money others are talking about here, why not get a great new monitor?
Prices are dropping like a rock right now.

He's still gotta connect it. Whether it's via HDMI, SDI, or some other means. But you don't get something for nothing.

But the JVC is a great monitor, it is a CRT with real blacks and whites, so stick with it.
