How to convert a section of a longer event into a loop

I'm sure there is a way to do this but can't find it in the manual or figure it out.

I often record a riff or part and loop it. However, because I recorded preceding and trailing time before and after the portion I want to loop, I've been simply cutting and pasting the loop after I drag the event to the loop region. It would be great if I could designate a portion of that event as the loop and be able to drag it as if that was the actual length of the original event -- and not have to take it into a sound forge to edit it.

I tried messing with the Trimmer tool but couldn't find a way to do this. I also tried "splitting" the loop out of the original loop.

Select a region of the area you want to loop, then render it (make sure to check the box that says "Render region area only" or something like that). Obviously you need to check the loop box in the event properties of the rendered loop.

Open copy in editoe and then just close the editor....simplest way.
Then you have a new take (whilst still retaining the original under it as a different take) which will loop accordingly.
