How to copy from one project to another

Here's the scenario...I wanted to open up one project, and copy a specific set of timelines and events (w/ all the settings) to another project. I opened to instances of Vegas. In project a (the source project), I highlited the entire section I wanted to copy (this included multiple video tracks, audio tracks, filters, audio envelopes, and velocity envelopes) I did a ctrl-c (copy) and when I attempted to paste into project b, it didn't copy all the envelopes. I basically lost those settings and had to redo them. I've also seen some other quirky things happen when attempting to just copy from one project to another.

The reason I ask is I generally like to edit pieces in different projects, and put it all together into a "final" project...so I just want to copy a timeline, or selected timeline, and capture everything as is and paste into the new project. Any idea on when this will work, when it won't work, and any tips on how to do this?

Why not just render the individual pieces and then assemble them in a final project?

how would I render them? for example, if everything is eventually going to DVD Architect for example...do I just render each individual project to an mpeg, and then reload that into a final project? Would that work? Or is there another way you were thinking of?

Also, I tend to want to move entire series of events within a timeline,...and while there is a "lock envelopes to events" setting, it doesn't seem to work correctly all the time...
