HD & Blu Ray DVDs use an entirely different format/structure from the usual or normal SD DVDs. It is possible to encode HD video & stick it on either a regular or one of the HD format DVDs & play it on any PC with the right software & drive. For Blu Ray or HD DVD interactivity you'll have to follow the formats' respective specs.

If you check out "Elephants Dream" you can see an example of HD DVD done without hi-$ authoring software, & over at the Microsoft site you can find a jumpstart kit & forums. Software for Blu Ray is currently a bit problematic -- search online including in this forum for more info.

It is possible to encode DivX or Xvid at HD specs, have it play on some DVD players, & maybe the player will hook up to an HDTV - results vary.

Is even possible to author High Definition DVD with DVD Architect?

Yes, some folks are calling it "3X DVD" -- HD-DVD burned to regular DVD-R/RW. There are some packages that allow you to Author "Basic" HD-DVD's (menus and mpeg-2 in HD resolutions). These will allow you to take your HD mpeg2 (from HDV Camcorders), add some menus, and burn them as HD-DVD to DVD5/9 discs.
