Hi I am trying to create a darker shape (rectangular) behind the title to have more separation between title and video, both of which are currently bright. I have tried everything but cant find an answer to that. The idea is to have a color or 'faded' space behind the title over the video.
Can anyone help please?

One way to do this is to add a black or other color media generator event to a track just under the title track and frame it via track motion (unchcking the maintain aspect ratio option) to where you want it under the title, and add some blur to suit. Also, lower the opacity of the event on the timeline - 25% as in the following example:
The most common way to define titles is to add a drop shadow to the title. If using Vegas Ttles and Text, a slight Outline can also be added to the text as well:
