How to create stereo sound in DVD

I am running Vegas Movie Studio 6.0 and Architect 3.0.

I typically transfer my DV .avi files from tape into Vegas to edit and process a movie. I typically will also add intro music from mp3 files. After I am done, I export out a .avi file again to import into Architect. After I complete my menu additions in Architect, I than render my movie into MPEG-2.

I am not sure what I did not notice this in earlier productions, but when I play the movie on my home theater system, I realized that the intro songs were only coming out of my center channel. This is telling my that I am not processing "stereo" sound either in my added music or my video tape..

Can any provide instructions, if it is possible with the software I am using, in order to complete a DVD with Stereo sound?

Thank you,

Shooter

What do you mean with 'the intro songs'? Do they play as background to your dvd menu (created with dvda), or are these songs in the movies you rendered with Vegas?

Anyhow, if it is in Vegas, rightclick on the sound effect, go to channel and see if you 're in stereo.

Good question; I was really talking about both. But, starting with your suggestion of looking at the file within Vegas, I looked at the "channel" which was listed as "both" and I also looked at the Records Inputs and it was listed as "Stereo". To further understand, I played the dvd on my other home theater system that does not have a center speaker and it sounded good. I played again with my other system with the center channel and the center channel just dominated the volume so much, I did not realize there was actually sound coming out to the L/R speakers. After I turned the sound way done on the Center channel, I could hear that R/L speakers, but I had to turn the volume higher than I normally would have to play it to get it to sound of similar volume. When I play regular movie DVD's within my L-C-R channel speaker system, I do not get this phenomena. When music is playing, the L/R speakers dominate and not the center channel. In my DVD, it appears my Center channel is dominating.

Anyone else experience this?

Up to last week I also used VMS6. It only supports stereo. (Now I have upgraded to VMS8Platinum, which supports 5.1 surround.) I think the problem lies with your home theater system, which has a central speaker. Try to tweak some settings there, until you get the sound right. There is nothing wrong with the stereo dvd, I believe.

btw, if you live in Europe, now is the time to upgrade to VMS8Platinum. This is $49.95 and add $10 taxes to that, but with the incredible low Euro conversion rate, this totals to 40€ .
