How to create very fast random cuts?

What's the best method for taking a video clip, slicing it up into really short (4 or 5 frame) clips, and randomly reassembling them to spice up, let's say, a music or sports video? You know, kind of a rapid-fire montage effect, but based on a video clip, not stills.

On a related note, I once saw a Premiere demo in which you could time a bunch of stills to display in synch with a music track by simply tapping the spacebar along with the beat of the music. I think I saw a script to do something like that in Vegas, but was wondering if/how others may have done this.

Thanks!

There are scripts to do this in terms of you manually lay the markers, and then insert sections from the media pool to do this, or you can open sections up in Trimmer and cut/add very quickly.
Mike Chenoweth is an ace at this, so is a guy named Mgustus/LDisney. Check out posts from LDisney on the DMN site about how to do this the way he does. He mixes stills from the vid that he captures with Vegas, and mixes them with various vid shots.

Also, you were wondering if you could cut to the beat like premier.

You can press the "m" key as the music is playing which will put markers along the timeline in sync with the beat (assuming you can keep a beat). This can help to lay the pictures in sync with the markets which will also help them sync to the music.

I usually just line up the music to the wave peaks, but some music pieces have too much going on to see the peaks, so you have to use the markers.

I I have a lot of photos, I measure the average distance between the beats and I go into Options / Preferences / Editing and adjust the still picture length to correspond. Then when I drag the pictures in as a group or individually, they are already syncronized (or take very little adjustment to fit).

Remember to set the picture length longer when you are through for two reasons, 1) you won't be able to "preview" a photo that is real short (the preview length corresponds to the default picture length), and it will be inconvenient for you to use the short length on an ongoing basis.

Hope that helps.

Drag the in point of the next section to new position.
