How to cut/paste from one track to another

I have an audio/video track (which is grouped) from which I want to cut/paste selected sections into a new track. My methodology is the following:

1. I go into the original track (OT), split and mark the selection to be copied
2. I select the section between the two markers and copy
3. I then select the copy track (CT) and paste

The problems I'm having are:

1. When I paste to the CT, it pastes at the current cusor position on the OT. I then have to zoom out, and manually move the CT and append it to the existing CTs. I then have to zoom out, go back to my marker, and continue.

2. I don't know how to play just the CT. I selected the CT and hit play, but it seems to play the OT.

What's the best way to do this?

Try this: after you've created the copy, move the cursor to the position you want the copy to be inserted. Then click on the Copy Track -- in other words, select it.

Then paste. This should past the copy at the cursor position on the selected Copy Track. Since Vegas permits multiple tracks, you have to be careful to select the track on which you want to operate.

Then, look at the left hand end of each track. In addition to the track name, you'll find a number of icons, one that looks like a circle with a line through it. This is the "mute" button. (Hover the cursor over this icon and you'll see a pop-up box that identifies it.) Click this icon on track one -- andio and video -- (your Original Track OT) and you will mute the track. Now click on the " ! " icon (the "Solo" icon) on the Copy Track (track two, audio and video) and you'll play just that track.

Look on the Help menu for more information about "mute" and "solo." They're very useful tools, especially when you get six or eight tracks on the desk top and want to play video from one track and audio from another, for example.
