We want to do a Picture in Picture...

With a talkin head in one...

And Over-the-Sholder have a slide show of pictures.

I tried putting the pic's on a video track on top... but can't find out an easy way to resize or crop them so they are exactly the same size and in the same place.

Thanks for any help on how to do this in Vegas 5.

On the header for the track with the pictures, find the Track Motion button and click that to open the Track Motion dialog. There, you can resize and position all of the track's content at once.

Two different methods, which you can combine if you wish ...

1) Pan/Crop : pull the dashed rectangle out bigger to make the picture smaller in the frame. Move the rectangle around to position the picture where you want it.

2) Track Motion : shrink the dashed rectangle in smaller and position it where you want it to place the smaller picture in the frame.

1+2) Both together, useful if you want to crop the picture to a smaller portion first (pan/crop) then size & position it (track motion).

Is one of your videos (talking head or slide show) meant to be a main video. That is does it fill the entire screen? If so that should go on the bottom track. The other one should go on the top track and be resized to the PiP size with pan and crop (either on the event level or on the track level)
If neither video is meant to fill the entire screen (ie two smaller videos in the screen with a black background) then also resize the second track.
As far as making the different videos in the PiP the same location and size. Copy and paste the initial PiP and then just change the media in subsequent events.

OK, I give up... it's been a long day.

I want the Talking Head to fill the screen and the PIP slide show over their sholder. I want all pic's the same size in the PIP, of course.

My question is... how do you change the media in subsequent (copied) events?

I drag a still from the media pool to the top time line as I want the talking head to fill the frame... and the PIP over their sholder.

I use the Track Motion tool on the track to resize & position the photo over the talking heads sholder. Works great so far.

Now I copy the event on the timeline and paste it back in the timeline right after the first event... so now I have the same pic in two events... one after the other on the same time line.

I'll be darn'd if I can see how to change the pic in the 2nd event.

thanks for any help :)

OK, I have it. Just double click on a photo in the Media Pool while that track is select... the new event with the photo will go to the timeline and will be the same size... and in the same position as the prior event on that time line.

Right?

Double clicking on a photo in the media pool will place that photo as an event in the selected timeline at the position of the curser. If you then right click on your correctly placed PiP (ie the first one you placed) and choose copy and then right click on the different event you just created and choose "Paste event attributes" it should change the second one to match the size and position of the first one.

Terry, he doesn't need to copy/paste attributes since he's using track motion to resize and position the whole track of photos.

He'd only need to copy/paste attributes if he were using Pan / Crop to do this, which he's not.

Rob,
Of course, sorry I missed that.
