Hi,

Here's what I want to try and accomplish...for my next wedding, I'd like the boys (4 ushers + groom) to walk in a straight line walking towards the camera, then in an instant, all the ushers will be slow motioned (50-60%), while the groom keeps walking (and outpaces them).

Can it be done?
I have Vegas and CS5.5

I was thinking of faking it when the boys are walking to say "freeze" and the groom keeps walking faster...dunno.

In Vegas? Your "faking" option is probably way easier than the compositing that would be necessary, and very very difficult to do in Vegas. Vegas doesn't have motion tracking, and the masking is very manual.

I suppose you could video the ushers without the groom, then with the camera still locked in the same position the groom without the ushers, then use a difference mask on the groom's track to remove his background and composite that on top of the ushers' track. You can then add a velocity envelope to the ushers to slow them down at will. Not easy, but possibly doable. Getting the mask right will take a lot of fiddling.

You'd also have to make sure that it makes visual sense to have the groom in front of the ushers at all times. If he was ever behind them spatially then this technique would move him in front anyway which could have very bizarre results.

It's not that hard to do.
Shoot the aisle with no one walking down it as a background plate.
Then in a green screen studio you shoot the groom and then the ushers.
The hardest part is getting the lighting and camera angles to match so the final composite works visually.

The again faking it for real is by far the simplest but it requires rehearsal.
