How to do this effect

How does someone make an effect like the numbers falling top to bottom in the beginning of the movie The Matrix or in the VASST training discs where the words are moving past the screen in streams left to right and from behind to the front of the screen? Is there an effect package or is that just lots of time working with the Sony Ssndard plugins?

Matrix? I'd use Particle Illusion. You could spend hours with ProType Titler, but you're gonna have spend much on it and you may feel it wont be Matrix-like . . .

Moving Text on Paths? Vegas Protypetitler.

Moving Text on a straight line? PTT or Sony "Text" using Placement.

Or you could buy stock footage of it. I've seen several around.

if you've got an older ATI card (X1000 series or earlier) that's built included I think as a neat full-screen shader thinggy.

But particles for that one is best.

If anyone ever needs the Matrix thing done or something similar feel free to drop me an email. I've got AE and Text Anarchy which makes randomised characters as particles etc. The bog standard Matrix thing is tutorial #2, inc the project file :)

Needless to say I'm offering to do this for free.

If you use AfterEffects, Digitial Anarchy sells a plugin called Text Anarchy which is simple to use and looks great. I used in on a project and was very pleased.

thanks folks, I downloaded Particle Illusion trial and will start playing with it - so far it looks pretty nice - I'm not sure how to change the text in some of the illusions - like the logo effects - any quick tips would be much appreciated.

Srode! Well done on getting Pi . .. You will enjoy it tremendously.

My best tip? And I'm being serious here, please DO see any of Alan's (Lorence) tutorials on the basics and then some. He makes it very understandable AND do go and read the Pi Forum on the COW site. Ask questions too.

I use Pi sparingly, just to add some sparkles for client's work. Remember, a little does go an awfully long way.

Thanks Grazie, I looked up the Logo Text changes and it's a pretty straight forward bmp creation - one completed and added to a custom particle library and it worked fine

I'm definitely going to use this mostly for intros etc - sparingly through any one video for sure - excess would make it look too much like a video game. From what I have seen so far it's pretty powerful once a person gets the hang of it.
