How to do this...? (Playlist within a file?)

I have one large medie file with numerous chapters (martial arts footage).

I've created a special features menu page and would like to have a button for 'Play all Chokes', one for 'Play All Strikes' and one for 'Play All Takedowns'. The chokes, strikes and takedowns are not consecutive within the media - they are spaced throughout the file but are highlighted by markers.

I thought I could do a playlist of all chokes etc. but playlists seem to require that they are seperate media files. I then thought that I could set the in and out points for the media file, but the items of interest are not consecutive, they are spread throughout the file.

I'm stuck!

The only way I can think to do this is to go back into Vegas and edit new media files with 'choke compilation', 'strike compilation' etc and render these out to new MPEG2 media files. Of course these extra files will then have to be added to the DVD and increase it's file size...

Any ideas please folks?

Cheers

You can do this by adding the full file to the project window once for each scene. It then helps to rename each instance to correspond to a particular scene. Now for each instance set the start and end times to correspond to that scene.

You can now create a playlist for each type of activity and add the relevant scenes to each. When you author the DVD it will contain only one copy of your footage, not one for each instance.

Thanks for your reply Mike - much appreciated.

I've done what you said and added six instances of the entire media file, renaming them 'Takedown 1' through 'Takedown 6'. I've then added these to a playlist and all works well

.....except

in addition to the Playlist button 'All Takedowns' I now also have six individual buttons for Takedowns 1 through 6. If I try and delete these individual takedwon buttons it removes the media.

How do I do it so that I just have the one 'All Takedowns' button visible?

Thanks for your patience mate - I'm a noob! :-)

If you drag the instances to the top item in the Project Window (Title.dar), not to the folder beneath it, they won't get added to the menu, but will be available to include in playlists.

Hope that helps

I have been struggling with similar scenario. This is really good way to create different paths in DVD, although my trouble is that in final DVD I loose chapter navigation so i can not skip chapters. It works all OK in preview but in final DVD you can not skip chapters.

Best Regards,
