How to flucuate audio volume

jamcas wrote on 3/19/2004, 6:13 AM
HI,

I have two audio tracks in my project, each audio track is a single media file.
(one is music the other is intermitant commentry)

I want to dip the volume of the music slightly when the commentry is active.

now i can hit S to split the auido track up but then there is no smooth transition from medium to soft volume. Is there a way to fade down from the previous tracks volume. ?

Regards
Jamcas

Select the Audio track and press V to create an audio envelope. You can add points to this envelope.

When you get tired of creating all the points, try my free script QuickEnvelope at http://www.rmtools.se. To run scripts you need Vegas 4 and the .NET Framework from Microsoft.

No need to split the track.

Right click on the music track and add an envelope.

Click on the envelope line to add markers at the start and end of each section of speech then drag the line down between each of the 2 sets of markers.

If you are doing a LOT of voice-over work, you can also look at the voice-over wizard in Excalibur.

If you want to use the Split method, use a dissolve for a smoother transition, but the Envelopes is a better way to go.
