Not with Vegas in it's current form. The only thing that really matters is processor speed. Get a faster processor and your effects will be closer to real time. The video card doesn't matter.

If Pinnacle can use the graphic's card porocessor for rendering why not Sony?

Pinnacle has it's own special graphiucs card, doesnt it?

If you mean Vegas rendering via OpenGL, that would be sweet. It's probley a matter of re-programming some rendering engine.

I can't imagine OpenGL helping video at all. The preview image is made up of an image map of whatever size the the window is set for. Vegas must generate this information to send to the video card, which then displays it. All OpenGL could do is take the already completed image map and place it on the screen, which is what Vegas already does. It's not like 3D rendering where the software can say, "draw a sphere on the screen" and have the graphics card go do it. Each pixel has to be calculated by Vegas in order to be displayed.

The following is an extract from the Pinnacle Liquid Edition ;

GPU-based effects processing gives you 16X the effects processing throughput power of PCI-based solutions.
Liquid Edition harnesses the full potential of your computer by driving real-time effects from both your CPU and GPU.
Protect your future with a completely scalable architecture. The real-time power of Liquid Edition expands with faster CPUs and more powerful graphics cards.

No mention of it having to be a prp[riery GPU.

Cheers

Yeah, but each video layer could be considered a plain in 3d. It could really help lots of alpha channel layers. I belive the max texture size on most 3d cards is 2048x2048 which is the max Vegas project. I'm not talking about openGL preview, i'm just talking about final rendering. I think most cards support some sort of alpha challel, bump mapping, lighting, and some other things. It could be used to accelerate some stuff.

If I knew how to program it would be very cool to test out.

They failed to mention in there about how crappy their products are. Not to mention their crappy codec.

Pinnacle Liquid Edition comes with Hollywood FX Pro which is an outstanding 3D effects and transition generator that supports OpenGL hardware rendering. Vegas could benefit from OpenGL for its 3D transitions (i.e., Page Peel, 3D Blinds, etc.) Edition uses Hollywood FX for this type of transition. I have Hollywood FX Pro and I use it all the time for event videos. I wish there was a Vegas plugin but that’s never going to happen. (but Wax 2.0 gets really close) ;-)
