How to in ..Vegas Audio 2?

I have just started using this tool. I want to loop play a tune on one track and record at the same time on other track(s). Here is what I did:
-Inserted the the existing recording(event) in Track 1. Selected a time range and selected loop play. Routed Track one to Aux Bus B to monitor over the headphone.
-inserted blank track 2, set it up for recording and started recording. Routed this to Bus A.
- When I started recording, Track 2 also kept looping within the same time window. i.e., it would keep recording over again in the same window and not go further!

What am I doing wrong??

Your not doing anything wrong, that's the way Vegas records multiple takes for punch-ins etc.

For what you are trying to do, copy that same loop region and use Edit > Paste Repeat to a separate track. You can then either delete or mute the original. Turn off the loop button.

Now you can record linearly right along side your source material.
