How to increase Text size on Timeline Events

PeterWright wrote on 11/16/2024, 7:23 PM

Finally upgraded to V22 and love many new features.

My poor old eyes however still strain to read text on Events - things like Fade In or Fade out length, Time Code, name of clip etc - is there a way of making the Text bigger? I've searched Help without success, so I still have to lean forward close to screen to read this information!

I don't believe that there is an option to change font sizing in Vegas Pro, but the display size of Windows can be increased using the scaling setting in Windows (11) Display Settings menu.

Another option which I've done to improve legibility of the white fonts in the event headers on the timeline is to change the track colors in Options/Preferences/Display.

There are tracks (A - H) listed in the track field, and the color of each track can be individually set by clicking on the color picker. I've found this to markedly improve font legibility using darker track colors than the default Vegas Pro track / event header pastel colors.

Thanks Dexcon, you're right - as well as font size, it is those pastels that minimise readability!

I've tried increasing Windows Text size to 200%, and all sorts of relatively unimportant buttons, icons and text around the Track Headers and above the Timeline become larger,
BUT
The Text WITHIN EVENTS stays tiny! So do the Names of Markers and Regions
If there is no way within Vegas, I really hope Magix can change this, and talking of simple but effective changes, a choice of colours for Markers?

@PeterWright Sorry, there is just no way to make them any bigger currently..... And even if the developers were to make them bigger it may lead to other issues for users.

Thanks Steve - yes I appreciate this has to be checked out, but -

If we were given the option to increase text size on Fade In/Out durations, this comes as a pop-up, superimposed over the Timeline, so making it twice as big would not affect anything.

If names of Markers and Regions were doubled in size, the Timeline as you know is completely flexible regarding height/ size of tracks, so again this should not cause issues.

And being able to choose colour of Markers would give us the ability to create groups, to visually identify what each Marker was for - e.g. - Yellow to identify mentions or appearance of something or someone , Blue for Chorus, Green for Verse, Black for a particular location. etc, etc...
Markers are already coloured Rust colour - Replace this with a selection, maybe six.

So simple, should take a programmer about an hour to add this choice

I imagine AI Speech to Text took even longer than that!

I vote this be done!

You might experiment with Windows Settings/Accessibility/Text Size.

Varied marker colors were discussed on this thread back in July this year, my suggestion at the time being that it be the editor who decides what each color is used for.

Let's face it... since Vegas 19.0, the text size is just too small looking at Video FX, Transitions, Tracks, etc.

Cannot believe the developers do not recognize this issue. I have a 27" 4K monitor with Windows size scaled to 125%, and all other Windows apps I have the font size is good, but Vegas is too tiny.

rraud wrote on 12/13/2024, 9:37 AM

In conjunction with increasing the PC;s DPI % setting, try going to your Vegas' shortcut icon and right-click to select 'Properties> Compatibility> 'Change high DPI settings' and check-mark the 'High DPI override' field. Then in the context menu, select 'System (enhanced)'.

I recall this working on Sound Forge and earlier versions of Vegas and It may or may not work with later VP versions and/or Win 11 on the particular text notations you wish to enlarge.

Hi rraud.... I tried your suggestion with changing the High DPI scaling override in both Vegas 21.0 & 22.0, but fortunately the font size never changed. Appreciate your suggestion to help find a work around. I upgraded from 1 27" 4K monitor to a 32" 4K OLED monitor, which kinda helps. I have Windows 10 custom scaling set to 110%.

My old eyes ain't like they used to be either. I have the display on my Dell XPS15 laptop set to 1080x1920 with 175% DPI which works good for me, Occasionally though a setting is off-screen, so I have to temporarily set the DPI back to the 'recommended' 125%.
