? how to insert in middle of project

Hi folks

I'm wondering how can you insert a new event in thr middle of a project. Say you working on a 1 hour long edit, you decide yo want to add a new clip at the 32 min mark. I feel like I've been doing it the hard way. I'll hold ctrl and highlight all the clips after 32 min, make a new group then slide it to the right to make room for the new clip, then pull it back to the left to crossfade it back into the new clip??? Also is the a way to take a large group of clips on the time line and form a new group with the mouse rather than using the ctrl key which feels like it's gonna take for ever, and if you miss on clip your messed up and have to start again.

Thank
Ralph

There are two ways to do this. Well, three, if you count your hard way.

1) Insert Time. Set the timeline cursor where you want to insert your new material and select Insert then Time. Designate more than you'll need and everything will move right and out of your way. Add your new scenes.

Now move your cursor between where your new stuff ends and your old stuff begins and double-click. This will select the blank space. Make sure Ripple Edits is selected (otherwise this won't work) and then Delete. Everything to the right will shift left, right up against the scenes on the left.

Inserting time, however, occasionally gives me trouble. Sometimes it doesn't move all the layers the same distance -- which means I have to go in and move everything back into place when I'm done. If that's the case:

2) Select your Selection Tool. It's under Edit. This lets you "lasso" all the scenes you want to move. Once you have them, move them out of your way to the right, then add your new scenes and delete the time gap, as in the second step above. (Again, make sure Ripple Edits is enabled or it won't work!)
