I assume that you have made some takes on the same event,
and you want to delete the unwanted ones. If that's the
case, you can right-click on the event and, from the sub-
menu "Take", choose "Delete ...".
If you do that, a Dialog box will appear. Then, all you
have to do is select the takes you don't want and
click "OK".
This will remove them from the project.
To erase them definitively from your hard disc, there are
some different approaches, but I think the most practical
one is (assuming you have Sound Forge too) following these
simple steps:
1- Right-click on the event and choose "Open Copy in Sound
Forge". If the take was mono and appears in stereo, this
can be fixed by using the convert channels feature in the
program (Sound Forge).
2- Click "save" in Sound Forge, and close it. (And memorize
the name of the file)
3- Back in Vegas, right-click again on the event and delete
all takes with the exception of the one named like the file
you memorized.
4- The other takes are part of another file which appears
in the Media Pool. Once the counts of the file are zero
(0), you can delete the file (first from the Media Pool)
safely from your hard disk. This will permanently delete
all other takes from the hard disk, and preserve some space
for others to come.
The other Question, about Punch, is quite easy.
Just remember to use only the ruler (or the arrows or
markers) for location purposes. That is, DON'T CLICK over
the track's space.
Now, select the event by clicking on it, and locate the
cursor in a place before the point where you want to punch.
Press the space bar (to play back the project) and then
stop it using the ENTER key, as if you were punching
manually.
Now, press the "S" key to split the event in two in that
precise location.
Select the last event and locate the cursor before that
point (Whitout de-selecting the event!), and start
recording.
Hope it helps.
Regards.
