How to label/mark a clip

clay-n wrote on 5/18/2019, 10:58 AM

Is there a way to mark a clip so that if I move it, the label moves with the clip?

I've tried Markers and Regions but they seem to be time based so if I move the clip, the marker does not move.
I want to identify clips so that I can then move them around. Sort of like having a sticky note right on the clip so I know what that clip is about without having to watch it again.

Turn on "Auto-Ripple" on the lower timeline bar and select the option to affect markers and regions.

Another way is to set the marker in the Trimmer window instead which will apply a different kind of marker ("Media Marker") which will be bound to the clip whereever you move it to.

The scripting tool Vegasaur offers an option to demote timeline markers into a media markers.

If you have 'Active Take Name' enabled (Ctrl+Shift+I) This can give you a reference. You can change the event's 'take name' as well, if you so desire. (Right-click the event & select 'Properties'.

I agree with Marco. Using the trimmer to "mark" the media seems the best approach. If I understand what the OP wants, then using Regions (press r) in the trimmer will let you describe the media and that description survives if you edit the media into multiple events.
