How to make a Grid with many Videos

Kloverton wrote on 9/30/2019, 4:27 PM

Hey Guys. I searched Google and Youtube and it didn't help me!

I have about 40+ Videos sent by people for a music video part, where they are singing a verse.

What needs to be done is to have all of these videos in one shot, in a grid.

Question is. How to do it AUTOMATICALLY without a need to cut and move each File manually around the frame...

Hope there is an automatic way to do it... Please help.

By the way new build of Vegas 17 is Great. Everything Works Fine, Stable and Effects also work properly now. Thanks to the Developers !

Didn't help me at all. People are still just creating dozens of video timelines and moving them manually with Tracking tool.

Check out Vegasaur's video wall function - I think that will get you what you want.

@Kloverton

I agree with @Kinvermark . I would also use the Vegasaur Video Wall.

To use this tool, place all desired events on separate tracks, one under the other.

You can use the following way to place several media files across tracks at once:

1.If you're using the Explorer or Project Media window, select the media files you want to add.

2.Right-click the selected files and drag them to the timeline. A shortcut menu is displayed.

3.Choose "Add Across Tracks" command from the shortcut menu to add the selected media files as events on adjacent tracks.

@Kloverton - You've had some great feed back from others which in one way or another reference back to the Video Wall postings I invited you to research. So, from considering your response to me I'm guessing none of these options in VegasPro are what you're after. Is that correct? If so do open a Product Suggestion with MAGIX and make a Link to this Thread.

If you have an older Sony version of Vegas, you can use the freeware DaviTools Video Wall. Sadly, the author never re-compiled to work with Magix versions. Here is the link. http://www.davitools.com/videowall/

(I ask the follwoing questions with respect.)

I am curious which country you live in? Because I clearly don't understand your economics. How can you afford Vegas 17, a computer that runs Vegas 17, and presumably have a paying client that wants significant work done, and yet can't afford a very inexpensive and useful addition like Vegasaur? It will save you huge amounts of time in the long run. Can't you just pass the cost on to your client? Is your labour rate so low that that it makes more sense to do this by hand?

I am not trying to pin you down; I am truly curious.

@Kloverton - Theres isn’t a way to do this semi- or even automatically without investing in a Third Party S/W.

Hope there is an automatic way to do it... Please help.

@Kloverton - Yes there is, as has been explained. In the past I’ve also used DaviTools. A great lil Gadget. It WAS a freebie. Not so much for VP17.

@Kinvermark - Yes, I agree.

I live in Russia. Average wage is 400-500$ a month. Im getting paid 150$ for the work done. The client are teenage girls who are making a birthday music video. Not everyone here doing Hollywood content for big companies. Its the first time i ever needed to use these feature in 10 years, and spending most of the budget from the project for a one use scenario is ridiculous. As i said before in forum, friend of mine who works in a digital shop, provided me with a key.

Since this a "single use" project, you could always download Vegasaur which I believe still has a 30 day trial, complete your project and then remove the software.

Vegasaur's Video Wall feature supports grids up to 99x99 so you could insert 9801 clips. Should be sufficient.

Thanks for taking the time to explain your situation. The huge variance in wages & prices across the world is a challenge for software pricing, which for obvious reasons tends to be global. In most western countries, the price of Vegasaur is less than a nice evening meal in a restaurant.

Only thing I would add, is that Vegasaur does much much more than video walls, so you may discover efficiencies that can MAKE you money. It then becomes an investment that creates profit rather than an expense taking away your profit. This is capitalism.

But, if you can find a way to make the money first and then use it to invest, that is the best!

Good luck :)

200 video clips in Full HD frame: let's say it will be 15x15 grid => one cell will be 128x72 pixels. What's the point?

Former user wrote on 10/1/2019, 12:29 PM

@Kloverton

I made a project for you to use in your 200 videos. Project videos are set to last 30 seconds. If you need more time just manually set the lenght of the videos in timeline. The project was made in Vegas Pro 14 build 244 with resolution 1920x1080p 30p. So it can be used in Vegas 14,15,16 and 17.

You just need to add the 200 videos in the folder indicated and rename the files that everything else will be done automatically.

Follow the steps of this video that everything will work out.  I warn you in advance that because these are 200 videos being shown at one time in the preview, Vegas will be very slow in the preview and rendering will take an eternity.

Downloand link project Video Wall with tutorial here.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xliblomgh3v5b4c/Video%20Wall%20Project.rar?dl=0

I will give you advice from professional to professional. I've been in the same situation as you and that's why I understand. In all the work done, save a little of your profit and when you can, buy Vegasaur. Worth every penny and will help you a lot in your work. For me it was one of the best investments ever made. The purchase, in addition to benefiting you, will also encourage developers to continue with the work, which is fair, as this is their job and each one has a life and family to support just like us.

Good luck in your jobs!
