Even easier, edit the text properites, make the text color transparent and the background color not.

If you look at the Special FX tab in US2/3, you'll find an auto-text mask creator.
One fun trick is to fill the mask with the same video seen beneath the text so in other words, you'll have the same events beneath the text duplicated, except one is within the text mask.
Now apply a heavy blue, red, or green grad or color overlay to the media inside the text mask. This gives you the same media inside the mask as what is outside of the mask, with a color tint, making it fit very nicely. Of course, you could also just create text with a semi-transparent color, but the effect isn't quite the same. Apply a touch of bump map to it, and it's even more attractive.
