Petrol, matches...
Seriously, there's a wonderful .veg at Sundance, pretty much does the whole deal. Even has a tree in the background that 'seems' to be on fire. I've used it many times.

Where do I find petrol and matches?
mjroddy wrote on 3/12/2004, 4:59 PM
Supermarket, home improvement store, etc.
But if you're looking to do it digitally, you may want to look into PIllusion (www.wondertouch.com). Very convincing fire particles.

I tried the petrol and matches approach years ago, singed eyebrows come to mind but also not very convincing flames on film.
Napalm seems to be an industry standard, if you're serious though I'd consult someone who knows just what they're doing, I can give lots of free advice on what NOT to do (i.e. how to stay out of hospital).

FXs are great and safe but far from totally convincing unless you've got the really high end stuff and put a lot of time into it. Fire, water and skin are the holy grails of CGI

I purchased Caligari trueSpace 6.6 it has particles (fire).

They are discontinuing version 4.3 ($79) and there are free
plugins or you can purchase a book by Nick Robalik" trueSpace F/X Creations"
that includes PyroCluster on CD that is a great help.

I am far from being Pixar or Big Ideas employment candidate but found
it easy to start.

I agree that particleIllusion will do the job nicely. This is what I use.

Butser,

I can hear you snickering at the subject line. Congrats on the restraint!

Ulead's Cool 3D has nice fire particles, stock footage is always an easy out. Vegas can create fire with compositing. There is a "Burning Tree" veg file from Richard Kim on the Sundance site that will show you how to create the effect, but it's slow to build and have a great effect.

I thought STIX made Cold As Ice? Or was that Foreigner? (I’m really dating myself now)

If you don’t think Vegas can make fire you obviously haven’t been following this thread => Thoughts on the upcoming VV5. You might say it’s “flaming” hot. ;-)

Sorry, it’s too early on a Saturday to be reading this stuff. Zippy, you are the best. I laughed so hard my wife came in to make sure I was OK. (having too much fun on my own I guess)

Can someone say seriously how I make fire in Vegas 4?
Where to go exactly...?!?!
farss wrote on 3/13/2004, 6:13 AM
Fly,
read SPOTs post. I've used the veg from the Sundance site many times. To get what you want you might need to modify it but once you see how it works that's not too difficult.

Of course there's fire and there's fire!

What kind are you after?

Balls of fire as in an explosion, house on fire kinda fire or just a wall of fire?
HouseFly wrote on 3/14/2004, 3:54 AM
I want a firewall.
It should blend in with the rest of the screen.
farss wrote on 3/14/2004, 5:18 AM
The Sundance .veg will do that nicely.

Particle Illusion have extensive library of fire, fire with smoke and others.
Check with wondertouch.com.
Any of those particles you can adjust size, frame numbers and position(any many more). PI render very quick(I wish Vegas will render that quick).
You can download the demo fully functionall.
Have a fun

HouseFly,
I posted a short clip of a fire type wall on Chienworks video share site.
This was created using just the media generator in Vegas.
It was not meant to look real "real" just to illustrate a point in the presentation. check it out and tell us if this is kinda what your looking for, or something more realistic?
It should be up on Kelly's site some time today , probably with the name "epirb-firesuppression" or something close.
heres the link to the main page

Zip, you have a great sense of humor! I'm glad that all those cheap shots that we gave you didn't stick. I, too, remember that thread.
