How to merge clips

Hi, does anyone know how to add two clips in vegas 9.0 and have them overlapping. i.e a clip and you want to add a special effect over the top? I know you have the cookie cutter but I want two clips actually merged together... thanks for any help anyone can give. :) x

A lot of it depends on what sort of effect you want. However, in almost all cases it will start with having the clips on two separate tracks, one above the other. If you reduce the opacity on the upper track the lower one will start showing through as they blend together. There are also many compositing modes available that will affect how they blend.

What is the effect you want to achieve?

Thanks. The fading of the clip worked - I am not sure how the compositing modes work - how do you do that? thanks
