how to move a video clip

mojoman wrote on 12/11/2007, 10:15 PM
I am placing photos on the timeline and I already had a video segment on the timeline to the right of the photos. I need more space to place photos. How do I move the video clips (it's not just one clip but a series of clips that had been split) to the right as a group without moving one clip at a time? Hope I am clear on what I want to do. thanks

Rick

Either go into "EDIT" mode (it's one of the icons in the toolbar), where you can select the clips with dragging, and then go back to normal mode, and move them all the selected clips at once, or...
you press SHIFT and you click the first clip and then the last one you want to move, and then they are all selected. And then you move.

make sure you have 'autoripple' activate; all the events will move together

Except if you want to move them the other direction, in which case you can always do it the way I described. ;)

using the Shift function worked perfect. If I have associated titles/sound effects with the section I am moving how do I include them? do i need to highlight everything then use the SHIFT function?

I wasn't sure how the auto-ripple effect functions. I didn't find it mentioned in the manual. I know how to activate it tho.

thanks again!

You can also select the first clip -> Right Click on it and choose "Select events to end", when the clips are all selected if you hit the "G" key this will also group them which makes selecting & moving them as a group easier. To ungroup them hit the "U" key.

thank you very much 4eyes. when you say "when all the clips are selected....." how are you doing this? I selected the first clip, right clicked and chose select events to end, then selected the last clip and hit G but i was not able to move the group to the right. when I use the Shift function as described above I discovered everything to the left also moves which I don't want to happen. I just want to select a group and move it only. Nothing else, or at least not move anything to the left of it. Doesn't matter if things to the right move.

appreciate the help guys.

I believe there's another very quick and easy way to accomplish what you want. Use the menu option - "Insert > time" I believe it's called. You can specify any of amount of time you want to insert at the cursor - 1 second, 1 minute, 1 hour, etc. - and it will insert the time across all tracks.

"then selected the last clip"

Don't do that. That's the problem. When you do that then only the last clip is selected, and G will only group that one clip with itself. Right-mouse-click on the first, choose select events to end, then press G.
