Sorry I am also looking for a similar answer, maybe I can piggyback your question and it may benefit us both. I have an event I want to remove from my project, if I do that all my narration sound events and titles go out of sync. Is there a way I can select all track events after the point I want to remove and have all multiple track events move in unison and snap into place intact?
Firstly you don't move Tracks in time. You can move Tracks in terms of hierachy - that is Track 1 can be "moved" to Track 5 - but you don't move tracks in time. Okay . . You CAN move Events on Tracks IN TIME.
Secondly Tracks "hold" events. Events are subject to TIME, that is their respective position in TIME and relative, therefore, to their place in your video. An event on Track 1 can be move backwards and forwards, relative to that Track 1. You can also move that Event to Track 5. But Track 1 and Track 5 don't move. Yes, it is a matter of semantics, but very important. I do understand many people talk about "laying down a track". This I understand as being laying an AUDIO event onto a track or tracks. But, that AUDIO "item" is an EVENT on THAT track. What we call "laying a track" is just an AUDIO event, an event ON a track.
Okay, try using Auto Ripple. I use this all the time. You can select movement to affect ONLY that Track's Events OR select another of the 2 options. Try and see.
Pjam, using this will ensure your Events beyond the t/l cursor will "move" further down the t/l in unison.
I know I've been pedantic, but once we are sure we talking from the same hymn sheet I think it will be clearer, not only for me, but you too.
Best regards, apologies for the 101 on tracks and events . . .
Seems like the fisrt one needs to use Auto rippple se to all and the all items the at are the cusrser move. The second, sounds like you have the Auto ripple ON, this is causing items to move down when you delete a clip, normally things remain in time along he tracks, if you delete any items
Okay.. I've had the same question as the original poster, and after reading the follow ups, still can't quite figure it out. What I've tried to do, and what there are quick shortcuts for in Media100 and Affinity, is to select all events on all tracks to the left or right of the cti. My fix for this right now is to shrink the timeline down, and use the selection cursor (Drag a marqee box around everything I want to move). This is cumbersome, and not very accurate. Using ripple is fine for automaticly adjusting timeline / track events based on a trim, insertion or deletion, but I don't see how it could be used to solve this problem.
IoV = Institute of Videographers. Not for profit organisation which strives to improve the skills and professionalism of all things video. Simple as that! There are others here who are too. Up to them to "come-out".
Okay, you've got an event, say midway in project, double click on event. This will set up a Loop Selection of/for that Event. Cursor appears to flash at start of Event. Ctrl Right arrow, Cursor Flashes at Right hand end of Event. Now, hold down Ctrl+SHift+Right Arrow - everything to the Right of cursor will be selected. SO LONG as you'vew got Auto Ripple, for the affected tracks OR whatever you sleceted in Auto Ripple, moving THAT selection, say to the right, will be "pushed" further down the T/L.
It does take sometime getting used to, but you'll get there . . really!
I can't speak for, "....in Media100 and Affinity, is to select all events on all tracks to the left or right of the cti. " . . . . don't know it - I don't speak of things I haven't used.
"Using ripple is fine for automaticly adjusting timeline / track events based on a trim, insertion or deletion, but I don't see how it could be used to solve this problem." . . . . well it does. If you hadn't the Auto Ripple selected, you'd get stuff sliding all over the other stuff! Nasty!!! - I've just re-checked. You need Auto Ripple ON. Don't take my word for it - try it out. This way you can Select all the stuff you want, drag it down the T/L. You could even put in a Marker at the point you want to drag your selection to, and drop it there . . . your choices are endless . .. well almost . . .
Hope this helps . . . sorry for the shorthand . . got my own problems at the moment with Paint Shop Pro . . how to make a brush line gradient - urggghhhh !!!! But that's a new post . . not for here,
OK, ok I one to, now a qualified member, so call me sir, if you mind.
Just means I have sent in some work for evaluation which got more then the 70%. I send in a two year old Holiday edit I did on my trusty old Casablanca, no fancy stuff just straight cuts and a title to top and tail it.
I am fine Graziee, just melting in the heat when filming weddings and then spend all days in doors editing on the hottes day so far.. I trust we will meet agin soon to have a natter and catch up. Will be free in october if you want to try and get us all together..
Take t easy and stay coooool....
Select the the clip you want to push to the right.
Press AUto Ripple (CTL+L) (this has 3 options depending on what you want to do)
then slide the clip to the right and realease all the clips on the track should have moved up. Any clips crossing the previous clip and the sleceted clip will not move and will need to be lined up again manualy (take AR of or it all goes haywire) or I guess you could try hold CTRL and click those clips to move with you or put them in a group (Right Clip, Group)
OR see page 108 of the manual
Would be nice if we could add the odd picture to help, Or an online manual that you can link to.
Look for a new tool being released hopefully this week or (worst case) next week. It has a very powerful selection tool allowing you to do exactly what you have requested along with 8 other tools.
Ok solved my problem with Auto Ripple set to all events, markers, tracks, simple huh! Well I've only had Vegas 6-8 weeks and I am learning an enormous amount so fast, Vegas really rocks!
