How to open .mpg video file?

Veg Vid 2.0g won't open a video .mpg file. I've read that there's a plug-in included that should let me do this. I can't, however open any .mpg file. How can I install the plug-in? My problem may be that I physicall have the install CD for Vegas 1.0 and then bought/downloaded the upgrade to Video 2.0. If this plug-in came only on the 2.0 cd, I wouldn't have it. Can you please help so I can open and edit .mpg video files? Thanks.

You should update Vegas to 2.0g. This update is free if you have prurchased any version of Vegas 2. The MPEG plug-in is included with Vegas 2.0g, so you should have no problem once you update.

Please note that the MPEG plug-in does require a separate registration- just follow the on screen prompts from Vegas.

I am using 2.0g but no luck opening .mpg video files. I get error message: "Warniing: an error occured while opening one or more files. The file could not be opened. Make sure the file exists and you have access to the file/folder." I can open any other type of file, but not any type of .mpg video file. Anything I can try from here? Thanks in advance.

try rendering anything as mpeg- if you get the MPEGregistration dialog, walk through that until done, then cancel the render, then try opening the mpeg file.

Thanks, that was it! If you can't open a video .mpg file in Vegas Video, you have to activate the registration. It' not obvious how to do this when you're trying to OPEN an .mpg. The solution is to first RENDER a file as an .mpg, thenyou will get the registration dialog and you'll be able to open and edit .mpg files. Thanks guys, we love Vegas Video.
