How To output to VHS using Vegas & ADVC-110?

Greetings all,

I have just received the Canopus ADVC-110 and I tried to output to VHS through a booster/splitter. I have used my camcorder to perform this until I received the 110.

Here's what I'm doing:

Using Vegas 4 & 6 >capture>print to tape...using "preview on device" I load the files to be recorded to VHS. The playback color is distorted, however, if I switch from digital to analog then back to digital the playback is perfect until the scene changes...back to color distortions.

I need to be able to make two VHS copies at the same time.

I'm using s-video to connect to the booster/splitter with left/right audio into a Y connector for mono to feed the left channel. Any help or suggestions on how to correct this situation?

Thanks,

Chris

Just a guess, but are you in PAL land and have the ADVC set for NTSC (or vice-versa)?

Why not just go Canopus A/V out > VCR #1 A/V in and VCR#1 A/V out > VCR# 2 A/V in? It's only one loop so the quality hit is negligble.

Hey everyone,

I have tried several different ways of getting the signal to the VCR. Still no luck.

I've tried no booster/splitter to a single VCR. Nothing seems to work. I'm still getting color distortion.

I've tried Canopus It's been almost a week with no reply by email.

Any suggestions?

When you say 'color distortion' what exactly do you mean?
Have you tried connecting the output of the ADVC 110 directly to a monitor and seeing how it looks?

I suspect if the material originated on DV then your levels might be too hot for VHS, try appying the Broadcast Legal filter to the Video Bus, might need to try different presets to get the desired results.

One other problem you can run into doing this. Vegas will at times (like during a fade out) actually 'see' no video and hence will not apply any FX to one or more frames i.e. the BC Levels filter does nothing!. To get around this add a bottom track the whole length of the project and fill it with black.

Color Distortion....Everything turns to a gray.....with some color in various parts of the picture, however, the colors are not what they should be....

Still no word from Canopus on this......my camcorder still works fine, with no distortion what so ever.

The primary reason I bought the 110 was to not use my camcorder for this....

I'll try the broadcast color filter.

I guess you are in a NTSC country?
If not you have to flick a switch most likely to set the unit to PAL.
The problem you describe sounds a lot like the wrong color subcarrier frequency.
