How to put hard drive in DMA mode?

I read in the book Vegas 4 by Dougles Spotted Eagle, page 9, "Be sure hard drvies are all in direct memory access (DMA) mode when operating Vegas. DMA can be enabled by going to the MY COMPUTER / PROPERTIES / DEVICE MANAGER / IDE CONTROLLERS / ADVANCED SETTINGS dialog and viewing the transfer mode."

I have Windows XP Home, and I can't find that. (My computertext is in Swedish.) There is a picture in page 10, but I haven't find that either in my computer. I suppose Douglas is usings something else than XP Home.

Can anyone explain this more clearly how I can be sure to have my hard drive in DMA mode?

It's a little harder to find in XP than it was in Win98. But unlike Win98, DMA "if available" should be enabled by default in XP. If you are not dropping numerous frames during capture, it is most likely enabled already.

Directly from Windows online help (pro version)

DMA is located in the Hardware Resources category in System Information. It displays information about your system's direct memory access (DMA). DMA transfers data between system memory and hardware devices without passing it through the CPU. The Resource column in the details pane displays the DMA channel that is being used by the device, which is listed in the Device column. The Status column displays the status of the device.

If the Status column indicates an error, such as Error, Degraded, Unknown, Pred Fail, Starting, Stopping, or Service, you can try the following troubleshooting solutions:

Use Device Manager to locate and troubleshoot the problem. For more information about Device Manager, see Device Manager.

If you can change settings, you'll probably need to from your setup (BIOS) access which you can access early on during boot.
