How To re-create effect in Sample Project (curtis Photo of Native American)

First off, I'm using Vegas 5.0 right off the CD, no patches yet.

I'm trying to figure out how to reproduce the Curtis Photo Sample project of the Native-American girl by using a picture of my daughter. I have reproduced everything and put my daughter's picture (.JPG) in the same project on tracks 2 & 3, then created a mask on track 2. Then I copied the keyframes of the 3d Track motion to my daughters picture on track 2, and the keyframes from the color correction fx on track 3 and the crop/zoom on track 3 which works fine. But for some reason, my daughters head & shoulders that I have masked out with the bezier curves on track 2 is not moving with the curve outline. The curve outline just moves. It's like the bezier diagram I have created is not "attached" to my daughter but just floats across the picture leaving her behind and just showing a different part of the picture as it floats. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Also one thing I notice in the original curtis photo, the bezier curve mask doesn't seem to move in between the keyframes. Instead it's like it JUMPS from the first keyframe's position to the second keyframe's position. There is not changes in between the keyframes... ???? what up?

If the subject you're masking "moves" then you need to move the mask to track the subject you're masking. You do that by setting keyframes with the keyframe controller that's at the bottom of many Vegas filters.

If you just copied from the demo THOSE keyframes track that girl. You need to adjust to YOUR girl. <wink>

Hi BillyBoy

Well actually the neither of them are moving. They are both still pictures. Their's is a .BMP and mine is a .JPG They are using 3D Track motion so I guess in that respect the image moves.... but I still don't know why between the first Mask keyframe and the last Mask keyframe, their is no movement in THEIR example. It confuses me as normally there is interpolation between keyframes on any of the effects/transitions I've ever used, UNLESS the values of the two keyframes are the same. On my picture of my daughter the movement between the mask keyframes is being interpolated.

That's only part of the mystery. The second part is why my daughters face & shoulders is not moving with the mask bezier curves.

Can someone look at that example and see what I mean?

Hey BillyBoy. I've decided I need to go back and RTFM. I was so excited when I saw the sample project where they removed the subject from the background using 3d track motion, that I immediately decided that I wanted to just jump in and DO it without doing the Milk before meat thing. So I'm now going through the new features tutorial, which of course i should have already done. If after I understand all of that and still can't reproduce it, I will post a link.

Thanks for your help. -Rick
