How to record audio from .rm file plays??

Can I do this? I'm playing a streaming .rm (RealMedia) file on the same pc (laptop) that has Vegas 5.0. Why can't I get Vegas to record the audio that's obviously being played through the onboard sound card (SigmaTel el cheapo built in to the mobo)?
I've chosen Microsoft Sound Mapper and Windows Classic Wave Driver from the selections under >Preferences>Audio Device, but I still can't get this to work.

I once did a similar thing on another PC that has a Delta 1010 soundcard: played a Bink video on the desktop (video from a PC vid game) and recorded the audio "internally" into Vegas as it played on the same PC.

Can you help me out?

Thanks,
Dan

YOu have to choose the correct input on the Windows Recording Mixer. In this case it is probably "What You Hear" or MIX OUTPUT. Something like that.

I figured it out....I can't do it...this laptop doesn't even have a line-in jack, so I guess it also doesn't support recording straight off the mobo.
Thanks, DaveT2, but no such option exists under my Windows OS recording options.

Thanks anyway,
Dan

Download FreeCorder from:

http://replay-video.com/freecorder/download.php

It's pretty good and it's free.

On my desktop system, I have both the MoBo sound card (built in) and an Echo Layla sound card.

To record off the web to Vegas, I set up the mobo to send sound to my little desktop speakers that have a headphone out.

I set up Vegas to record via the Echo Layla analog 1 in.

I connected a wire from the headphone out of the little speakers to the mixer that sees the Layla's Chan 1 in.

I played back the web file and recorded in Vegas. Not exactly pure digital, but I got the audio in one pass.

Alan,

Thanks much! I downloaded and installed freecoder. Works like a charm! You're a lifesaver.
