how to reduce video grain/noise?

I have a low-end Sony consumer dv camera, the problem with the camera is that the video grain/noise is so apparent (in indoor filming with enough lighting), can I reduce it using the latest version of screenblast or vegas video? and using what feature?
I tried to reduce it with pinnacle studio 9 (using its new feature) but the result was not quite good.

maybe I should wait for adobe affter effect 6.5 just to remove the grain (using the included grain surgery feature).

I don't know how much you can do in post-production, ruby. If you're shooting with inadequate light for your camcorder, you just haven't got anything for the software to work with.

You can try to apply the Brightness and Contrast effects to your clip in MS3 and see if that helps.

Get a copy of VirtualDub and the Dynamic Noise Reduction 2.1 filter and run it through that. Both are free so you have nothing to loose but the graininess. I use this on all my analog captured footage from TV shows and it really cleans up the TV noise nicely. It might work for you. There is a good article on cleaning video at ARS Technica.

You may need to download a VFW DV codec. Search the 'net for pdvcodec.zip (Panasonic) or VFWSoftwareCodec.zip (Matrox).
