In the MEDIA import window, you can click on a clip and delete it from the project.

Tools / Clean Media Pool.

Be forewarned though, clicking this will remove all items in the media pool which aren't currently on the timeline.

I can't believe I've missed seeing that. This is why I read these posts every day. Much better than "tip of the day" stuff that comes with most software.

Actually, Sony, you might consider having a way to link your programs to posts on this forum. The moderator could choose, each day, a post that contains a really neat tip, and then everyone could see this tip when they start up Vegas.

You can also use the little broom icon above the media pool screen that Zippy's complaining about!

Thanks everbody. I haven't figured out how the Media Pool works yet so didn't know to look in there.

So am I correct in thinking that their is a list in the VEG file which specifies which items are in the media pool for a particular project? It never occurred to me that it was project specific like that.

Thanks!

(I need that DVD course in Vegas. Somebody tell my wife that I need that for a Valentine's day present, okay?)

Yes, you are quite correct. The media pool is part of the project file and it contains a list of every item you've used in the timeline whether it's still there or not. You can also add items to the media pool without putting them on the timeline.

What's needed is a function that will remove from the media pool those items that have been deleted from the timeline that you don't want to use again in the future, but not those that haven't been put on the timeline yet or that you do eventually intend to use again. Ummm, yeah, maybe. I think i sorta understand what i just wrote. ;)

And that depends. Are you getting her chocolate and roses? Or just roses? Better go for the first option.

I understand, thanks. Makes perfect sence to me though I'm not sure how a function, such as you described, would know the difference but that's another topic.

Good point about the chocolate, etc. Of course it would be cheaper to just buy the DVD course! She'd probably miss the logic in that, though...

Perhaps Vegas 14.5b will include the clairvoyant module.

Perhaps not. ;)

Sadly, my sweetheart has to work all weekend so we won't get any closer than 800 miles apart on the 14th. *sigh*. Fortunately the florist i called for the dozen roses threw in the chocolates for free!!!

(Oops, hope she doesn't read this!)

Find Unused Wizard in Neon will help with that.

It puts all unused media that is in the media pool on a single track so you can easily see what's what. Delete from there, use the ""broom", and you've got it all sorted out.

Don't forget, holding Alt while clicking the broom turns you into a Witch ;)

- or in Gary's case, a Wizard.
