How to replace low rez proxies with high res originals

A videographer shot a concert performance ( 4 cameras) for me and sent me low rez proxies for me to to some test and proof of concept editing. I want to keep some of what I did and apply to the high rez original files.

Shortly I will get a hard drive from him with the original full res filles, how do I attach these to the project so that vegas pro 19 will render from the high res and not the temporary low res that he sent to me via the internet

Open the Project, go to Project Media, right-click a proxy file and choose "Replace..." and then pick the full res file.

Thanks glad to know it is so easy to do, I assume best practice would be to do that as the very last step before rendering to keep the system efficient. After rendering if more edits are needed do you then simply click make proxies ( which is very time consuming on a long high res file) so is there a quick and easy way to toggle between the proxy and high rez once both are in the project?

To easily do that, you would have to use a script of some sort. Using "replace", they won't both be in the project. You'll be replacing one for the other. I suppose if the original and proxy were in separate folders and named exactly the same, you could swap out folders to swap which you see.

In the project media window, if you right click on a file(s), you can use the "swap video files" option to move between low res and high res media. You can also select the option to swap the media during the render process in the render as dialog in the render options drop down.

so I have a related question: slightly different situation.

Videographer gives me the high rez files from the get go, I load into VEGAS and before editing I right click and create proxies so that the editing is smoother and easier for the computer. When I am done editing and tell VEGAS to render - do I first have to switch back to the original high rez files or is VEGAS smart enough to know that I dont want to render from the proxies I want to render from the original high rez?

VEGAS is smart enough to do the swap for you when using its native proxy system, and you can also return to viewing the full resolution files at any time while editing by setting the preview quality to either "Good" or "Best". I do this when coloring my videos, I put VEGAS into 32 bit mode (as I use 10 bit media) after editing the timeline in 8 bit mode (as it performs better), and I turn off proxies by setting the quality to best, since I don't usually need to see fluid framerates while coloring.
