Most likely when you connect the camcorder to your computer with the USB cable it should show up mounted as a drive letter in Windows Explorer. Browse through the list of files and drag the ones you want to your computer's hard drive.

If this is a correct scenario then you won't even be using Vegas at all to get the files. Also, if you can transfer the files this way then installing any software that came with the camera is probably a very grave mistake, and if you have installed it then it should probably be uninstalled, exorcised, and burned at the stake.

I am not using the software that came with the camera.... and will not use it.... that I know...
But there is no thumbnail on the clips.... in Explorer... just the VLC icon on each clip which was numbered by the system.... I have to hoover over the clips to see the dates.... Not very friendly.....
Is there a setting I am missing to correct this....to show the dates time size etc....
I have a mental block with this "memory " tech.....
I don't know how to direct the clips from the G:\ drive to my PC "Capture/Import" folder...when I "import" from the camera, the clips go right to my project... I want to import my media from this folder WHEN I need it... in other word I want the control... !!!!.
I used to do this with the miniDV cassettes.... but was using "capture" not import....
Thanks Chienworks for your help

Change the Explorer view to Details and you should see the filename and date/time.

When you say that importing the clips sends them right to the project that sounds like you're trying to move the files from within Vegas. I wouldn't bother. Use Windows Explorer (not MSIE) and you can drag & drop them to any folder you choose.

Chienworks... I am 99% there....!!!
With the Camera connected by USB, when I open AVCHD, stream, I would like to know how to see either a thumbnail and/or the dates that the clips were taken ... Not the VLC icon only !!!! OR the icon but more importantly the dates
Because it is connected by the USB, I can't see the screen with the time line....

I tried manipulating the "view" , but no dates are showing..in details, tiles....etc
The clips are fine in the project media, they show as thumbnails...
..
It is too long of a process to do this way... I am sure there is a more sophisticated way to do this....
. You put me in the right path.... Very appreciative....and Thanks again...
